MAISON5
To announce its revolutionary approach to design that will change our daily lives, Renault has created MAISON5, a 1,800m2 concept store dedicated to creation and encounters around R5, right in the heart of Paris in the 7th arrondissement.
From June 15 to September 15, 2024, Renault is inviting us to explore themes linked to music, art, fashion, gastronomy, sport, tech and design, all of which echo the Renault 5 E-Tech electric car.
On display: Renault cars in pop colors, of course, with striking and revolutionary R5 models, and accessories created in collaboration with iconic brands from different sectors, such as: agnès b. with a capsule collection, Fermob with a limited edition ATLO lamp and tray in R5 colors, Arkaïk with a mini-series of skateboards imagined by Renault design teams and made in France, Bonzini with a table soccer customized by Renault, Cosmo connected with an urban helmet in Renault 5 colors, Ressource with its yellow R5 pop tester jar.
Renault 5 revamps its design with a 100% E + + version !
– Thought to be extinct, the R5 is back in 100% electric form, with a new E-Tech engine and a new battery.
With a range of 400km, it recharges to 80% in just 30 minutes at a fast terminal.
The 100% electric E-tech engine, with 150hp and 245Nm of torque, is said to give the R5 a dynamic driving experience.
– Thought to be old-fashioned, Renault 5 is back with pop colors, a touch of mischief and a reinvented design, warm and customizable with 200 possible combinations. It’s a real eye-catcher, literally and figuratively.
We’ve fallen in love with it and want nothing more than to adopt it!
– Thought to be outdated, the R5 returns in an ultra-tech version.
Featuring the openRlink multimedia system with integrated Google, Renault 5 gives access to over 50 applications and a range of advanced connected services.
Like Ulysses 31 conversing with Shyrka, the on-board computer of his Odysseus ship, you can chat with reno, Renault’s avatar: you can spend pleasant, playful moments with him, or ask him for advice about your car or your driving. “Hey reno!” marks the start of a new adventure.
– The R5, thought to be noisy, becomes melodious.
How do you go from one to the other?
A poetic revolution: sound design at Renault
At Renault, acoustics are not a matter to be taken lightly.
Renault goes further, much further, even collaborating with a famous author-composer to penetrate the quintessence of sound design and give a soul to Renault 5. The result is as gentle as a caress.
The collaboration between Gilles Vidal, director of design for the Renault brand, and Jean-Michel Jarre, author-composer, is fascinating for them as well as for us, because they are starting from a blank sheet of paper: everything has to be created in the sound universe of the electric vehicle; the entire imaginary world of the vehicle has to be reinvented.
This September 12 on the set of MAISON 5, they shared their work.
Creacontact was there and gave you the ins and outs of this formidable revolution.
The constraints :
– create silence, lightly, harmoniously and without excess,
– reduce noise pollution,
– take into account the friction and sound emitted by all the parts and mechanisms of a car at a standstill and in motion, with an empty trunk and luggage,
– comply with imposed decibel standards
– take into account the place of speakers in the car…
Objectives :
– Imagine the sound signature of the Renault 5 brand (then the signature of other Renault models: to be continued ), in line with its values and identity as a pop, disruptive, affordable, economical and ecological car, aimed at both family and young customers.
It’s all about respecting the brand’s heritage while bringing it a new lease of life.
With this in mind, it’s a wonderful idea to call on a musician to integrate a poetic dynamic.
– Create a sound for each action in the car, such as :
o The VSP sound, i.e. the sound a vehicle must make to signal its presence (up to 30km/h). The challenge is to give the sound a notion of speed, to be harmonious, starting with an almost orchestral sound.
o The welcome sound, which is triggered when the door is opened.
o The turn signal sound,
o …
For the R5, Jean-Michel Jarre used synthesizer sounds from the ’80s with a modern twist to reinforce the “back to the future” feel.
For him, the “testoteronean” vision of car power and speed is outdated.
On the contrary, he believes that today, it’s lightness that best embodies the notion of speed, hence his work on a refined sound design.
This co-creation between Gilles Vidal, Renault’s Director of Design, and Jean-Michel Jarre is an unprecedented, avant-garde collaboration.
In fact, Jean-Michel Jarre compares Gilles Vidal to Raymond Loewy, the great designer of the mid-twentieth century, who was always keen to promote beauty, and who had a considerable influence on his era, particularly in the field of music.
There’s no doubt that this Renault Revolution will change our daily lives: like the marvellous calm of mountain pastures, where the sound of bells hanging from cows’ necks far from disturbing the silence of the mountains, on the contrary underlines it, are we heading, thanks to Renault, towards cities where noise pollution will have disappeared to be replaced by light, poetic sounds in harmony with the environment?
A dream? No. A near reality, thanks to Renault.
